#371 - Mastering the Deck with Jon Benaglio

Jon Benaglio is a Florida entrepreneur, Florida State Certified General Contractor, and founder and owner of Primus Ventures, Inc., d/b/a Deckmasters of Florida. With more than 27 years in the construction industry, Jon has built Deckmasters into a multi-award-winning company specializing in high-end residential, commercial, hospitality, and waterfront outdoor construction. Jon's portfolio includes the pool deck at the iconic Seminole Hard Rock Guitar Hotel, a nearly 1.5-mile Trex boardwalk, and projects for luxury hotels, condominiums, developers, celebrities, professional athletes, and high-end homeowners throughout Florida. His work has earned multiple industry awards, including recognition from the North American Deck and Railing Association (NADRA). Jon has been featured in industry and design publications, on numerous podcasts, and in television and digital media, including Destination Miami, with additional television projects currently in development. He is also a frequent attendee and speaker at decking and construction events around the country and has become a trusted industry resource for contractors, manufacturers, and other professionals. Jon's entrepreneurial experience extends well beyond Deckmasters. His background includes several years in the financial industry, ownership of Roof Claims Associates, where he represented homeowners following hurricane and storm damage and helped them pursue fair settlements with their insurance companies, and involvement in thousands of roof installations throughout South Florida. He is also the owner of Florida Sports Insurance, an online insurance business providing sports-related insurance solutions for athletes and participants. Across nearly three decades, Jon's career has spanned construction, finance, insurance, roofing, sales, marketing, and entrepreneurship. His philosophy has remained simple: find a specialized market, become an expert in it, build a reputation around results, and never stop adapting. Outside of business, Jon is a father to a teenage son and a lifelong sports enthusiast. Jon joins Florida Atlantic University's The Shrimp Tank to share the successes, failures, risks, and lessons learned from nearly three decades of building businesses from the ground up.
