Lamar Bonaparte / Republic Development and Management Group

Lamar Bonaparte is the owner of Republic Development and Management Group (DMG), which he created in 2011. Lamar creatively transformed the Upper King Street venue, formerly known as Chai's, into what is now known as Republic Garden & Lounge.

Lamar was involved in every aspect of the development of Republic - from concept to creation. He was just as involved in his most recent project, a brainchild built upon his 20 plus years of experience in the entertainment, hospitality, and real estate industry. Lamar developed Charleston's latest multi-venue project: Republic Midtown at the Hyatt Hotel located at 570 King Street. The project consists of 3 upscale dining establishments: Bourbon N' Bubbles (cosmopolitan cocktail and dining experience) , Mesu (sushi and Mexican concept), and 1st Place (upscale sports bar concept).

The Republic Midtown project is not only rooted in Lamar's extensive industry experience combined with his creativity and travels, it stays true to, and builds upon Charleston's class, charm, and charisma. His concepts have come to define the city as a premier global destination for outstanding culinary and nightlife experiences. Prior to creating DMG, Lamar launched his own local real estate investment and development company as well as an event company (26 Industries), which curated events for bars, clubs, restaurants, and businesses throughout the greater Charleston region. The company focused on strategic marketing, promotions, and all logistical elements for its clients.

Born and raised in Charleston, Lamar went to college at South Carolina State University and graduated with a degree in Accounting. Lamar is a proud native of Charleston, South Carolina whom hopes to continue to make his mark on our beautiful growing city!
